The AZ2500 DDS is a professional computerized Alt-Azimuth mount that represents a paradigm shift in high-performance motion control. Utilizing a T-Shape (Gimbal) configuration, it is specifically engineered for the most demanding aerospace and research environments, offering elite pointing speeds and tracking precision. This form factor provides a highly rigid, compact body that ensures optimal stability for advanced instrumentation.

This system integrates 10Micron’s exclusive DDS technology, utilizing industrial-grade absolute on-axis encoders and high-torque and high-efficiency direct-drive motors to deliver seamless tracking and pointing accuracy.

Heritage and Vision

First introduced in 2021, the AZ2500 DDS is a critical evolution of the 10Micron Direct Drive System (DDS) line. It was developed to push the brand into new aerospace and spatial tracking sectors, building upon decades of leadership in the telescope mount industry. This mount represents the company’s most significant commitment to magnetism-based motion control and complex movement management in a compact configuration, strategically positioning 10Micron as a primary provider for advanced spatial tracking and aerospace industry standards.

Applications and Targets

This system is optimized for high-velocity tracking and critical missions where traditional platforms falter. Its primary applications include Space Situational Awareness (SSA), Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST), and Free Space Optical communication (FSO), including Lasercom. It is equally effective for atmospheric research and high-end astronomical scientific research. Its versatility makes it the ideal platform for universities, astronomical observatories, and aerospace companies requiring rapid reactivity, precision and absolute reliability in remote environments.

Payload and Setup

The Gimbal configuration is optimized for a dual telescope setup, supporting two separate optical tubes of up to 75kg (165 lb) each, for a total instrument capacity of 150kg (330 lb). This structural symmetry ensures inherent dynamic balance, eliminating the need for separate counterweights and simplifying the field setup, while ensuring optimal stability for advanced instrumentation.

Motion and Mechanical Engineering

The AZ2500 is driven by our proprietary Direct Drive System (DDS), which utilizes high-torque, high-efficiency magnetic motors. The system relies on the manipulation of electromagnetic fields to achieve fluid, high-speed movement without the backlash associated with traditional gear drives. The system is managed by a sophisticated feedback loop featuring on-axis high-resolution absolute encoders that provide real-time correction for unparalleled tracking accuracy.

The AZ2500 DDS is characterized by unparalleled mechanical rigidity, which is essential for maintaining precision during rapid movements under heavy loads. It incorporates premium-quality, high-precision bearings, along with mechanical and electrical emergency stops on both axes, to ensure safety and structural integrity.

Advanced Control and Connectivity

The mount is managed via our proprietary Enclosed Control Box featuring an onboard industrial microserver running a Linux-based operating system for reliable, standalone management. It supports a wide range of connectivity options, including Ethernet, CANopen, RS-232, and a dedicated GPS port with PPS signal for precise time synchronization. The system is powered by a 48V supply, optimized for professional-grade performance and stability.

The proprietary firmware includes an Auto-Tuning feature that calibrates motor parameters for specific payloads, eliminating resonance for the customer's unique setup. Users can manage the mount via a rugged, professional graphic display keypad or through a modern, browser-based web interface for full remote configuration and satellite TLE management.
