PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The AZ6000 DDS is a high-end professional-grade Alt-Azimuth mount, featuring a robotic Fork (Gimbal) configuration, specifically designed for uncompromising stability. By centering the mass directly over the primary axis of rotation, this design provides a highly rigid structure that eliminates the need for counterweights, ensuring exceptional performance for large-scale instruments.

This 'Go-To' system integrates 10Micron’s exclusive DDS technology, utilizing industrial-grade absolute on-axis encoders and high-torque and high-efficiency direct-drive motors to deliver seamless tracking and pointing accuracy. This mount is engineered for for high-end astronomy, research and new aerospace applications.

Heritage and Vision

First developed in 2018 alongside the AZ5000, the AZ6000 represents a critical evolution in 10Micron’s Alt-Azimuth lineage. It was built to extend the company's proprietary DDS technology into larger instrumentation capacities. This product embodies the brand's mission to bring the simplicity and precision of high-end astronomical mounts to specialized research and professional sectors.

Applications and Targets

This platform is optimized for the most demanding professional environments, including high-end astronomy, research, new aerospace applications and satellite tracking. It is particularly suited for Space Situational Awareness (SSA), Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST), and laser communication (Lasercomm/FSO), where extreme speed and reactivity are essential. The system’s versatility also makes it a primary choice for university observatories and advanced research facilities.

Payload and Setup

The AZ6000 DDS is engineered to support substantial instrumentation, with a payload capacity of up to 360kg (794 lb) and the ability to accommodate optical tubes with diameters up to 31" (800mm). Its fork configuration is ideal for Cassegrain-focus telescopes, though it remains highly adaptable with optional Nasmyth focus configurations to meet specific research needs.

Motion and Mechanical Engineering

The mount is powered by our proprietary Direct Drive System (DDS), which utilizes high-torque, high-efficiency magnetic motors. This gearless technology eliminates mechanical wear and backlash, allowing for exceptional pointing speeds. The system is managed by a sophisticated feedback loop featuring on-axis high-resolution absolute encoders that provide real-time correction for unparalleled tracking accuracy.

The mount’s mechanical integrity is defined by its very stiff and compact fork structure, which is specifically engineered to minimize vibrations during high-speed movements. Large-diameter, high-quality ball bearings ensure fluid motion under heavy loads. The mount features a minimum base height to improve overall stability and facilitate installation in smaller domes. Safety is prioritized through integrated mechanical stops on both axes, electromechanical brakes for altitude security, and an on-board emergency stop system to protect both the operator and the instrumentation.

Advanced Control and Connectivity

The mount features integrated electronics and an onboard industrial microserver running a Linux-based operating system for reliable, standalone management. It supports a wide range of connectivity options, including Ethernet, RS-232, and a dedicated GPS port with PPS signal for precise time synchronization. The system is powered by a 48V supply, optimized for professional-grade performance and stability.

Operational control is facilitated through an integrated sky model capability, allowing for advanced pointing models with up to 100 stars to correct for mechanical flexures and atmospheric refraction. The proprietary firmware includes an Auto-Tuning feature that calibrates motor parameters for specific payloads, eliminating resonance for the customer's unique setup. Users can manage the mount via a rugged, professional graphic display keypad or through a modern, browser-based web interface for full remote configuration and satellite TLE management.
